The .gif files in this directory each contain one figure for the accompany
the MSWord97 .doc file. 

The .doc file contains no figures, but does have the figure captions. Two
files for each figure are given. Those starting with letter "L" are large 
files that likely exceed the size of your browser screen. The other 
file for a given figure is smaller, being 35-50% of the larger size. 
The .gif files were purposely made large so that small details can be
visible.

As stated in the .doc file, this research was funded by National Science
